Full Mouth Reconstruction
Your mouth is made up of multiple components that work together, enabling you to perform numerous essential functions every day. All of these components allow you to bite and chew food, speak, and provide you with a confident smile. When all of these components are healthy, your mouth functions perfectly. However, there are many different types of oral health issues that can affect one or more of the components of your mouth, making basic tasks difficult and even painful. At Simon K. Choyee, DDS, Inc., we can help to restore your oral health, and your quality of life, with a full mouth reconstruction.
How Do I Know if I Need a Full Mouth Reconstruction?
A full mouth reconstruction is a treatment that involves a series of procedures, all of which are aimed at restoring the health of your mouth and the appearance of your smile. A full mouth reconstruction is similar to a smile makeover, with an additional focus on your oral health. Because the needs of each patient are unique, treatment is customizable, allowing us to provide you with the best results possible. Patients often require a combination of restorative treatments, periodontics, orthodontics, endodontic treatment, and oral surgery.
There are a few different reasons why you might need a full mouth reconstruction. Common reasons include:
• |
Severely damaged teeth.
|
• |
Teeth that have been worn significantly by bruxism.
|
• |
Alignment issues with the teeth or jaws.
|
• |
Facial or dental trauma.
|
• |
Tooth loss. |
Your Initial Exam
Before you undergo a full mouth reconstruction, we first perform an initial exam to determine the issues affecting your mouth. In addition to pinpointing your particular issues, we can determine their severity and formulate an effective treatment plan that will provide you with the best results possible. We look over all of the structures in your mouth and take images such as X-rays, 3D scans, and photographs.
During your exam, we take a look at your teeth. We assess their alignment and look them over for physical damage such as cracks and chips as well as decay. Your gums are looked over for redness, swelling, and gum recession, as well as areas of excess gum tissue. The alignment of your jaw is also assessed. This is important because not only do alignment issues affect your oral health, they can also impact other treatments that may need to be performed. Digital X-rays and 3D images allow us to assess the hidden areas of your mouth, including between the teeth, the roots of your teeth, and your jawbone.
