It all starts with just a mild toothache. You take a few over the counter pain relievers and forget all about it. After a few weeks, the pain does not subside and just gets worse and worse. This could mean you have an infection inside of your tooth that would require immediate dental work. Some of those signs are as follows. SymptomsAn infection inside your tooth can be extremely painful and dangerous. Some signs include bad breath, swelling in the jaw, swollen glands of the neck, bitter taste in the mouth, fever, pain, swelling of the gums, and sensitivity of the teeth to hot or cold. If you suspect that you have an infection inside of your tooth it is important to call your dentist right away. Leaving the tooth to infection could result in the infection spreading to other parts of the jaws, the blood, or you could even get sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that could ultimately kill you. If you suspect you are septic, go to the emergency room right away! TreatmentIf you suspect you may have an infection within the tooth there are many ways to deal with it. Things like a root canal allow the dentist to remove the damaged and infected pulp and stabilize the tooth around it. A root canal can kill the infection and allow for a much healthier mouth in the long run. In a worst-case scenario, the afflicted tooth would have to be extracted and can later be replaced with an implant. An infected tooth is not a life sentence and can be fixed relatively easily if caught in time. If you suspect that your tooth pain may be caused by an infection, then please call us today.
