All-On-4® Treatment Concept

Your teeth have many responsibilities. When you suffer tooth loss, all of these functions and your quality of life are greatly affected. One of the effects of tooth loss that often goes unnoticed is bone loss in your jaw. While traditional restorations restore many of the functions of your missing teeth, they cannot stop bone loss. Dental implants are a modern treatment for replacing missing teeth that restore all of the functions of your missing teeth, including helping to protect your jawbone. They can replace a single tooth, or they can replace an entire arch of teeth. For implants to be placed, however, you need to have sufficient bone mass remaining. At Simon K. Choyee, DDS, Inc., we can provide you with an alternative treatment with All on 4.

What Exactly are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a treatment designed to replace missing teeth. This unique treatment involves the use of small titanium posts, which are surgically placed into your jawbone. The posts provide support for your dental restorations. As you heal, your bone fuses to the posts, turning them into stable roots that hold your new teeth securely in place. Implants are very versatile and can be used to replace anywhere from one missing tooth to an entire arch.

The Effects of Tooth Loss on Your Jawbone

Your teeth play many important roles in your mouth. One of these roles is helping to maintain the health and strength of your jawbone. When you chew, your teeth stimulate your jawbone, which tells your body to send essential nutrients. When you lose your teeth, your jawbone loses stimulation. Over time, the bone begins to lose mass and becomes weak.

While dental implants help to stop and prevent bone loss, you need to have enough bone mass remaining in your jaw to support them. Without enough bone mass, your jaw cannot properly fuse, which can then lead to implant failure. Generally, to get implants with insufficient bone mass, a bone graft is required. If you are missing an entire arch of teeth, however, we can help to provide you with a full arch restoration without the need for a bone graft with All on 4.

All on 4

A typical full arch restoration uses 6 to 8 dental implant posts to support an arch of replacement teeth. However, if your jawbone is too weak, it may not be able to support all of these posts. Even the failure of a single post can compromise the entire restoration. Instead of a bone graft, we can provide you with a treatment called All on 4.

All on 4 uses only 4 implant posts to support your arch of replacement teeth. This treatment does not depend on the number of implant posts, but their positioning. Two posts are placed vertically at the front of the jaw, where there is naturally more bone mass. The other two posts are placed at the back of the jaw. These posts are inserted at a 45-degree angle, maximizing contact between your implants and your existing bone mass. This helps to create a stable base to hold your new teeth.

What Benefits Does All on 4 Provide?

There are numerous benefits associated with All on 4. In addition to all of the same benefits of other dental implants, other benefits include:
•  Less surgery. You require fewer posts, which results in less, and shorter, surgery.
•  Shorter recovery period.
•  No need for a bone graft or sinus lift.
•  More affordable. Fewer implants, less surgery, fewer office visits, and no bone graft all help to reduce the cost of the procedure.

Treatment with All on 4 allows us to use dental implants to replace an entire arch of missing teeth without the need for a bone graft first. To schedule your consultation, and to find out if All on 4 is right for you, call Simon K. Choyee, DDS, Inc. at (562) 947-4781 today.
