What Goes Into Removing Impacted Teeth?
Fear of the dentist is a common problem. There are plenty of people who avoid trips to our dental offices because of the fear. If people avoid going to our dentists, they may end up with bigger problems than they started with.

The best weapon against the fear is knowledge. The more a person knows about what will happen when they visit our offices, the easier it is to manage the fear. If they have an impacted tooth, this is what will happen in our offices.

Diagnosis
Before doing anything, it is important to determine exactly what the problem is. While some may think that all impacted teeth are the same, this is not true. There are four different types of impacted teeth.

•  Full bony impacted
•  Partial bony impacted
•  Soft tissue impacted
•  Erupted

We diagnose the type of impacted tooth through visual examination and x-rays. This allows us to develop the proper plan for the removal of the impacted tooth.

The Dental Procedure

Our dentists start the extraction with an incision around the affected tooth and gums. This provides the room needed to remove the tooth. After exposing the tooth. It is pulled out. Stitches can help close the wound left by the extraction That leaves a pocket that we pack with gauze. This can help stop any bleeding and can promote healing.

It is important to make sure to follow the aftercare instructions provided. This will help manage any pain or other issues around the surgical site. The stitches typically dissolve on their own, but a follow up visit is still necessary to make sure there are no complications.
